Traveling and engaging with each destination offers insights and narratives that weave into the fabric of my own stories, allowing me for a broader understanding of the world and our place within it. By collecting these inspirations, I aim to channel them into projects that resonate with our communities. Growing up in an immigrant household in Jackson Heights has shaped my perspective in the importance of bringing more art into our Latino communities. Art is inherently tied to our futures. It is a powerful medium for connection, dialogue, and understanding. Fostering a culture where artistic expression is valued. Where encouraging families to engage with art, whether through workshops, community events, or public installations, can instill a sense of pride and belonging. Everyone deserves the opportunity to experience art in its many forms. By reclaiming this space, we not only honor our heritage but also cultivate a vibrant future where creativity flourishes. The key lies in removing barriers and inviting everyone to participate, ensuring that art becomes a shared journey rather than an exclusive endeavor. Together, we can uplift our communities and nurture a legacy of artistic exploration. Embracing art can pave the way for a brighter future for all of us, encouraging innovation and deepening our cultural narratives. Together, we can create spaces where art flourishes, inspiring generations to come.
What is a message you always try to convey in your art/photography?
Incorporating philosophy into my photography opens a rich dialogue between visual art and abstract thought. Each image can serve as a reflection of philosophical ideas, inviting viewers to delve deeper into interpretation.
Consider the concept of existence—capturing moments that highlight the ephemeral nature of life can evoke questions about being and presence. The play of light and shadow can symbolize dualities found in philosophical discourse, such as good versus evil, knowledge versus ignorance, or reality versus illusion.
Composition plays a crucial role in conveying philosophical themes. The use of negative space can reflect solitude and introspection, while vibrant colors might suggest vitality and the complexity of human experience. By framing subjects in a certain way, I can challenge viewers to reconsider their preconceptions about identity, beauty, and truth.
Moreover, the act of photographing itself becomes a philosophical statement. The choice to freeze a moment in time raises inquiries about memory and the nature of reality. Each photograph is not just a representation; it is an interpretation, shaped by the vision and intent.
Ultimately, philosophy adds depth to photography, encouraging both the creator and the observer to engage with the medium on a more profound level. It transforms simple visuals into explorations of existence, perception, and knowledge, enriching the storytelling that images convey.
